Electric Kif

Bio:

ELECTRIC - having or producing a sudden sense of thrilling excitement
KIF - any agent [or music] capable of producing a euphoric condition

On April 2, 2021, Miami based instrumental quartet Electric Kif released Marrakush, the first single from their upcoming LP ‘Dreamlike’ due out in August. Marrakush is a moody and mesmerizing progressive jazz song that offers a first glimpse at a record exploring the delicate balance between staying connected to normal reality while making sense of the new one brought on by the pandemic.

Upon the very first note, the band sculpts spacey, dystopian textures that are woven seamlessly into a hypnotic and relentless groove. While the rhythmic layers of the bass and drums propel the track, the arrangement is punctuated by crunchy analog synth and distorted guitar melodies to provide a tangible richness. Swirling rhodes pads and guitar swells processed through analog tape delays underscore the captivating warmth and ethereal nature of the production.

“We enjoyed “sitting” on the groove for longer periods of time than we might have in previous records, This was the first song we attempted to play live, and it was fitting for it to be on a live stream in front of only the sound man - just as strange as the new writing process.” - EK

Marrakush represents the first demo that ignited the whole project and captures the foundational elements of the whole record’s sound. Producing this song also gave the band a chance to establish a process to work within the unfamiliar restrictions imposed by quarantine.

Electric Kif are a Miami-based power quartet that explore the boundaries between rock, jazz fusion and electronic drum & bass. Made up of bassist Rodrigo Zambrano, keyboardist Jason Matthews, drummer Armando Lopez and guitarist Eric Escanes, the “Kif” describe their music as “post-nuclear,” a dynamic mash of hard hitting groove, high octane riffs and cosmic melody.

"Hailing from Miami, Electric Kif and their undeniable spunk has caught the attention of music lovers through their execution of cosmic funk, rock, soul, and jazz. Their taste and talent bring an unparalleled energy and sound to the stage that inevitably creates a uniquely raw experience through every performance.” - Kendall Delfin, Live for Live Music

Electric Kif are a group of session musicians who came together to write and perform in between sideman gigs for other artists raging from Matt Scofield to Flo Rida…and many more in between. After a couple of years of hosting well known jam sessions in Miami, with numerous talented guest musicians joining them, the members realized their original music was taking its own form and getting a great response from those who heard it. They decided to write more, record again, and dig into to creating their own sound.

The band came together creatively from very different backgrounds. Jason Mathews on keys proudly hails from Philadelphia, Rodrigo Zambrano on bass is from Mexico City, Eric Escances on guitar is from Grenoble & Bordeaux, France, and Armando Lopez on drums was born and raised in Miami. Their training and experience combined was bound to generate something special…but their energy and dedication has taken Electric Kif to another level.

Armed with their latest album, HEIST, which was recorded, produced, and mixed entirely by the quartet at City Of Progress Studio in North Miami, the Kif have been hitting the road hard. Electric Kif has performed with national acts such as Snarky Puppy, Kung Fu, The Main Squeeze, Naughty Professor, Stratosphere All-Stars, TR3 featuring Tim Reynolds, The Fritz, Progger, and Killiam Shakespeare, as well as South Florida’s finest Roosevelt Collier and The Heavy Pets through a series of deep south and northeast runs. They were honored to be invited to perform at the first annual Ground Up Festival this past February as well as Okeechobee Festival along with Roosevelt Collier’s Allstar Band. They will also be representing the best Florida bands at Orange Blossom Jamboree 2017.
